The Telecoms Package is the package of European Directives regulating the communications networks and services, that is, the infrastructure and applications necessary to transport signals. In 2007 the Commission presented a proposal to modify it. That proposal is now being discussed in the European Parliament; a plenary vote is set for May 5. They want it approved it before the June elections at any price, even if giving up to the rights of citizens.

Telecom and content companies have been lobbying to model the Package to suit their interests.

They have introduced articles and amendments that will have the effect to finish with the openness in the Internet, its key feature and the reason of the information society development.
